Well. After several days of periodically tossing closets, storage bins, and bookshelves, I still haven’t found the pattern book I needed to make up my fun frog fabric into a casual dress. I’m tired of looking and not finding, so I’ve resorted to tracing the pattern pieces from another version of the dress that I made from the same pattern a couple years ago. Of course I am loathe to take the existing garment apart, so this is a much more painstaking process than tracing from nice flat, seamless book pages would have been.
So, that should-have-been-pretty-quick project is indeed in progress, though slower. Meantime, I thought I’d pop in to show off a couple things I finished some time ago but didn’t want to post about before they were given away. Now that the baby shower in question is over, looky here! Aren’t these fun?
I give straight A’s to the designers who had no idea they helped with this project! Here are the patterns:
The Leia hat is actually a mashup. I used the directions for Baby Leia’s buns from this pattern, but I admit I didn’t read it completely before I shopped for yarn and bought worsted weight. So rather than experiment with gauge, I just finished the buns as directed, then attached them to a brown copy of the Yoda-pattern beanie. Easy.
(To round out the baby gift, I also included something a little more practical, one of the shawls I finished over the summer. It turned out a good size for 1) Mom to wear, 2) Mom to swaddle Baby, or 3) a modestry drape for Mom to nurse Baby. Good stuff.)
And now there’s been more future-baby news from another family we know. I don’t anticipate an invitation to the next baby shower for at least another four months, but still, I can’t help planning a little now. So tell me, crafting friends: What are your favorite patterns for baby gifts?
